Creating a Scottish-Themed Bedroom

Have you ever stayed in a cottage in the tranquil Scotland countryside? Do you want to replicate the joy that the beautiful scenery and the relaxing atmosphere gave you? Well, with just a few simple guidelines, you can make a Scottish-themed bedroom that exudes calmness and beauty. First, purchase a couple wool tartan blankets, which are usually available in many department stores or fabric stores. Many have great chequered patterns that are reminiscent of the kilts worn by Scots, Irish, and other citizens of Celtic nations. Commission a tailor to sew a sleeve at the top of the fabric where wooden curtain rods can be inserted. Place two blankets on each end of the rod then mount the entire assembly on the window. Now you have a cool, Scottish curtain!

Second, focus on your bed covers. Simple ones along with white pillowcases would do just fine. You can use linen materials or a cotton fabric with a high thread count for maximum comfort for the covers. Use one of your chequered wool blankets as a comforter or mattress pad.

Next, add a few wooden pieces of furniture. Go for antique furnishings if appropriate because they can provide a warm, classical countryside feel. But you can also opt for furniture made of roughly cut slabs of logs or branches that are made into unusually shaped chairs, tables, or beds. Opting for this kind of furniture gives your room a "natural" feel, just like the unspoiled wonders of Scotland.

Finally, add a few decorations to complete your bedroom. An oil lamp or an electric lamp that resembles its more traditional counterpart that is placed on the bedside table is a good start. You can also hang on your wall a large Celtic cross or a Claddagh. Or you can take a photo of beautiful Scottish scenery, have it enlarged, have it framed, and then hang it on the wall.
